Spinal Degeneration Louisville KY
What is Spinal Degeneration? Discs in the spine are soft and compressible that separate the vertebrae (interlocking bones) that make up the spine. The discs act as shock absorbers for the spine, allowing movements to take place. Spinal Degeneration can take place anywhere in the spine, but it most often it occurs in the lower back as well as the neck.
Some people are at a higher risk to have spinal degeneration. People who are at a higher risk include people who smoke cigarettes and those who do heavy physical work. People who are obese are also more likely to have symptoms of spinal degeneration.
Injuries can also cause this process to begin. An acute injury leading to a herniated disc may also begin the degeneration process.
